If you haven’t experienced Utah’s Dripping Rock Trail yet, then you are about to explore a unique outdoor adventure. Located in Spanish Fork, UT, just off Highway 6, this trail is perfect for all ages and fitness levels, offering a combination of natural beauty, accessibility, and fun features that make it a must visit.
The Dripping Rock Trail is a short, easy hike that’s paved, flat, and only .7 mile round trip. This makes it accessible for most people, including families with strollers. However, reaching the water requires navigating a steep hill with rocks, making it not wheelchair or stroller accessible. Despite this, the trail offers a serene escape into nature and is popular for bird watching, road biking, and leisurely walks.
As you walk along the paved path, you will notice a rock wall adorned with hundreds, if not thousands, of colorful painted rocks. These rocks, placed by visitors, feature beautiful artwork, positive sayings, and vibrant colors, adding a touch of community spirit and creativity to the trail. ( See video below)
At different intervals along the trail, you’ll hear what sounds like rain coming from the opposite bank. This is the “dripping rock” phenomenon, with several spots where water seeps out, culminating in the larger, iconic Dripping Rock. For those seeking to cool off, wading in the cold water is a must, just remember to bring water shoes as the pebbles can be slippery. In most areas the water came to my mid calf to below my knee. The deepest part of the first dripping rock would have been all the way up to my belly button if I wasn’t a chicken off cold water.

This hike or as I call it leisurely walk is the perfect way to spend an hour cooling off or even the whole day. There are some larger rocks that you can sit on by the water to eat a packed lunch. I even saw visitors that brought camping chairs to relax in the water with.

Trail Information and Tips
- Parking: Park at the parking lot across from The Oaks Golf Course for easy access to the trailhead.
- Timing: For the best experience, hike in the morning or evening to avoid the midday sun. The cold water is especially refreshing during the hot parts of the day. There is not a lot of shade on the paved trail but plenty of shade in the water.
- Safety: Watch out for spiders and slippery rocks. The trail can be slick, especially in the areas near the water.
- Gear: Bring sunscreen, water shoes, and maybe even a camera for fun photos under the dripping rocks. The painted rocks along the rock wall also make for great photo opportunities.

The Dripping Rock Trail is a delightful hike that offers natural beauty, unique rock formations, and a refreshing water play area. Perfect for a quick getaway or a family outing, it provides a wonderful opportunity to connect with nature and enjoy the simple pleasures of a trail that feels like a hidden gem. Happy hiking, and don’t forget to pack your sunscreen!
